On Monday, a man in Windhoek West opened fire on his girlfriend and her male acquaintance before taking his own life.

This incident, which shocked the community, resulted in two fatalities and left a third person injured.

According to a police report, 33-year-old Abner Shilemba first shot at an unnamed 54-year-old male acquaintance.

Shilemba then fired bullets at his girlfriend, 34-year-old Justine Nelenga, before turning the gun on himself.

The statement adds that they were both rushed to the Katutura State Hospital, where they both succumbed to their injuries. 

Both deceased, Nelenga and Shilemba, were employed by the Namibian Defence Force.

In another scourge that plagues the country, three suicides were recorded just this week.

On Monday, in the Omusati region's Okahao Constituency, 27-year-old Helman Petrus Amakali ended his life by hanging himself with a rope from a marula tree. 

Amakali did not leave a suicide note. 

On the same day in Mashare Constituency, towards midnight, the body of Masiyange Klaudia Shikongo was discovered in her room.

The 45-year-old hanged herself with a rope. According to the police, it is alleged that earlier during the day, she attempted the act but was stopped by family members. 

She also did not provide any explanation for her tragic decision. 

We end in the Otjozondjupa region at Bergaukas in the Grootfontein district, where on Tuesday, a 26-year-old Karaeb Hans hanged himself in the wee hours.

The reasons behind his actions remain unknown, as he did not leave any note.
