Church mother bodies and non-governmental organisations in Zambia have publicly differed over that government's constitutional amendment move in respect of the delimitation of constituencies.
The government earlier constituted a technical committee comprising members from across sections to get submissions on the constitutional amendment bill.
The team that included members of the church went around the country to collect submissions, and over 11,000 people and individuals participated in the process.
Among the clauses that the government wants to implement is delimitation of constituencies as required by law every 10 years.
The government is implementing a decentralisation programme by allocating ZK40 million to each of the 156 constituencies annually, a move that has seen communities building amenities according to their needs.
This move has, however, disadvantaged some rural constituencies that are too large for the required benefits of the annual allocations.
