Continuous investment in the professional development of staff has resulted in the Hardap Region improving by moving from 12th place to second place in the 2025 Namibia Senior Secondary Certificate Advanced Subsidiary (NSSCAS) Level results.

The Regional Director of Education, Paulus Lewin, said this when commenting on the region's examination performance.

The NSSCAS qualification rate nearly doubled, increasing from 13.8% in 2024 to 25.7% in 2025, a jump that places the region among the top performers nationally.

"The Advanced Subsidiary level has really have inspired each and every inhabitant of Hardap region, and we are glad to take on the challenges and the chances that come our way."

Lewin said a five-year turnaround strategy built around twelve clear objectives was implemented to address long-standing shortcomings in the education system.

"We required ethical behaviour from everyone in the system, so the overall responsibility to change the scenario in the Hardap lies in the changing of the mindset of everyone, starting with both learners, teachers, parents, guardians, carergivers and the political leadership."

The region has, however, dropped in the NSSCO-level national ranking.

"Because of the decline in the performance of the ordinary level, where we have moved from 13th to 14th place, we will also ensure to pay more attention to the lower grades and also the junior secondary phase. We will reduce the dropouts as well as the temptation of condoning learners transferring them from one grade to another without them mastering the basic competence of that particular grade they are in."

Looking ahead to 2026, the Directorate plans to intensify monitoring and evaluation of teaching and learning, introduce holiday, afternoon and weekend classes and restructure some combined schools to improve performance.

Plans are also underway to establish a school of excellence for gifted learners, ensuring talent is nurtured regardless of social and economic challenges.
