The Office of the Kunene Regional Governor has commenced the distribution of more than 300 stationery parcels to learners who have lost their parents, aimed at easing the hardships faced by vulnerable children in accessing education.
The initiative kicked off at Alpha Combined and Opuwo Primary Schools.
The initiative seeks to ensure that affected learners are not disadvantaged due to a lack of essential learning materials, which often hinders academic performance.
By providing stationery, the programme aims to restore dignity, boost confidence, and enable learners to focus on their studies despite challenging circumstances.
The Kunene Governor's Senior Private Secretary, Alpha Uzera, said the initiative reflects the regional leadership's commitment to supporting orphaned and vulnerable children, stressing that education remains a key pillar in breaking the cycle of poverty.
"It's the governor's directive that these items must go to the schools and to those learners particularly that do not have their parents, as we know January is a very difficult month; parents themselves find it very difficult to source school uniforms, stationery and all of those things, and you can only imagine how the situation would be for those that do not have their parents."
He noted that no child should be denied an opportunity to learn simply because they lack basic school supplies.
The Office of the Governor has expressed sincere appreciation to Gem Diamonds Limited for its generous 100 thousand dollar contribution, which made the initiative possible.
The donation highlights the importance of partnerships between government and the private sector in addressing social challenges affecting children.
The Governor's Office says similar programmes will continue as part of broader efforts to promote inclusive education and protect the welfare of vulnerable learners in the region.
