The Namibia Economic Freedom Fighters (NEFF) says discussions are underway with the Labour Ministry to ban labour hire companies.

Labour hire companies provide temporary workers to businesses, often in sectors like construction, manufacturing and logistics.

The labour hire sector supplies workers mainly to client companies without direct employment, facing scrutiny over fees and worker rights.

Speaking during a courtesy visit with President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, the Namibia Economic Freedom Fighters' Michael Amushelelo argued that companies use this system to avoid responsibilities and provide benefits such as medical aid and pensions.

Amushelelo described this as a colonial system that exploits workers by allowing middlemen to participate in workers' wage matters.

"Where Kalimbo hires you, but Kalimbo does not own a factory. He sends you to a factory, the factory pays Kalimbo, and Kalimbo then decides to pay you. That system is absolutely wrong. I cannot be sweating 12 hours or 13 hours, but my salary must go through an individual who is just sitting at home, and they are basically watching TV with their family. But you, who are doing the hard work, who are doing the hard labour – and this is currently happening right now in our mines – go to the uranium mines, go to the gold mines; people are currently being employed through a third party. What we want is for the third-party system to die; employees must hire people directly."
