The education directorate in the Zambezi Region commemorated the 11th African School Feeding Programme yesterday at Ngweze Primary School.
The commemoration was held under the theme "Ensuring Access to Nutritious Meals, Clean Water and Hygiene; Promoting Safety and Resilience in Every School Meal Investment".
The Namibian School Feeding Maize Blend supports 33,118 beneficiaries in the Zambezi Region.
Katima Circuit Inspector Rosco Lukubwe stressed the importance of the feeding program, adding that the home-school feeding models cater to 2,492 learners in four schools.
Lukubwe said millions of African children rely on school meals not only for education but also for survival.
He added that while Namibia’s school feeding programme caters to all primary schools in the region, they hope it extends to secondary schools.
This commemoration calls for the sustainability of feeding programmes through national ownership and budgeting, as well as strengthening rural economies by integrating local smallholder farmers.
