Affirmative Repositioning MP Frederick Shitana has commended President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah for recognising Namibia's creative industry.
During a courtesy visit to State House, Shitana raised concerns over taxation of artists, digital creators, and influencers by the Namibia Revenue Agency (NamRA), which recently announced revenue collection from those earning above N$50,000 annually.
“The minister touched on taxing the creative industry," Shitana said. “By my understanding, and with my ground-level experience, I think it’s not yet time to tax the music or creative sectors. Namibians are not recognised internationally with a standard recording court that allows access to online platforms. Right now, they register as foreigners—South Africans or Europeans. This is a serious issue. Namibians are very creative, and we are happy to give full support. We are here to engage on how to hold it together.”
President Nandi-Ndaitwah reaffirmed the government's commitment to developing the creative industry, one of seven priority areas for the eighth administration.
