The Namibia Fish Consumption Promotion Trust (NFCPT) has taken its awareness campaign to Omaheke, one of the least fish-consuming regions.
The trust took its education awareness to Chief Hosea Kutako Primary School in Aminius.
The idea is to first educate learners on the benefits of consuming fish.
“We are on a regional campaign where we are promoting the consumption of fish among school learners. The campaign is mainly saying 'educate them while young'. Our primary objective is to integrate fish consumption for primary school learners, and we are trying to prepare them with why they should consume fish, and at home they will be able to convince their parents how to prepare fish for them. Because we believe the kids play an important role in the choices of food. So, if kids are told at a young age of the importance of fish, they'll be able to know what fish does for their bodies and the economic benefits they can also find in fish,” according to the public relations officer, Michael Samuel.
During the campaign the Trust has also donated boxes of fish and reams of paper to the school.
The school principal, Samuel Mbiriona, also welcomed the gesture by the trust, which has also donated boxes of fish and reams of paper to the school.
