Former President Hifikepunye Pohamba expressed deep concern over serious social challenges facing Namibia, notably gender-based violence (GBV) and road accidents.

Speaking from his homestead in Okanghudi village during a courtesy visit by President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, Pohamba stressed that GBV continues to threaten the safety and dignity of women and children.
“As leaders and citizens, we must strengthen prevention, protection, and accountability mechanisms,” he said, calling for increased support and awareness campaigns to end the scourge.

Pohamba also highlighted the alarming rise in road accidents, noting 19 fatalities in just two days.
“These incidents remind us of the urgent need for stronger road safety measures, public awareness, and responsible driving,” he noted.
