UDF MP Nico Somaeb raised concerns regarding foreign nationals opening cuca shops to run drug-trading operations.

He questioned the Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security on whether they are seized of the matter.

"Foreign nationals have invaded our towns, and all over Namibia they have opened spaza shops. And what I've picked up is they are not only trading goods, but they are also selling drugs now in these spaza shops. There is a case now that is undergoing investigation in Otjiwarongo where a foreign owner was arrested in possession of medicines. And not even with medicines, but these people are producing drugs."

Minister Lucia Iipumbu stated that foreign nationals enter the country based on categories, with Osire camp having been designated for refugees.

She says the government is carrying out a verification process, as they have discovered that some of the individuals have migrated into other parts of the country, further urging the public to report such individuals to law enforcement.

"We have a category of those that are illegally here who are classified as illegal immigrants. Among those illegal immigrants, if you spot any of them, all of us, as nationals or non-nationals, have it as our duty and responsibility, together with the law enforcement officers and the immigration officers, to notify the relevant authorities. That's the Namibian police and the immigration officers."
