The Zambezi Education Directorate has received a donation of chairs and desks from the Namibia Fish Consumption and Promotion Trust (NFCPT).
Speaking at the handover, NFCPT Chief Executive Officer Victor Pea said the funds were raised during a 2023 gala dinner, following a flagship event that took place in the region.
“Those funds' sole purpose is essentially to plough back into the host regions so that when we host the regions, we don't just go back and leave the region empty-handed, so we need to give back as per the African customs so that gift is then given to education through the furniture we have delivered today.”
The furniture includes 440 desks and 440 chairs that came at the cost of over N$340,000 and were manufactured by trainees at Valombola Vocational Training Cener at Ongwediva.
Zambezi Governor Dorothy Kabula noted that the donation will transform the region's educational setting as it faces a shortage of furniture in many schools.
“There are also other schools in serious need of furniture. I am very much aware that this region still has many schools without furniture; children carry chairs from their homes to school every day. That makes the learning and teaching environment become uncomfortable for both teachers and learners."
Education Director Alex Sikume said the furniture comes at an appropriate time as the population of learners has increased.
“In 2025 our leaner numbers stood at around 47,352 as per our statistics, but in 2026 we have increased to 49,807. This means a lot to us in terms of providing the needed resources.”
