Isuswa Junior Primary School in the Katima Mulilo rural constituency is one of the many under-developed schools in the Zambezi Region.

For over 39 years, the school functioned with limited basic resources.

The Principle, Jackrine Sipipa, said the school has been without water for almost a year due to a failure in the submersible pump.

They depend on the community water tank.

“So far, we have not seen any major developments at the school. We lack classrooms, and our ablution facilities are not functioning. We also do not have an administration block and are currently using a storeroom instead. We do not yet have a community hostel, although it is something we urgently need. We also need a school fence and many other facilities that we hope to achieve in the future.”

She added that despite such challenges, the school has a pass rate of 70 to 80%, and through the school's brick-making project with the community, they managed to make bricks to build the school fence.

Sipipa said this at the welcoming ceremony of the school patron Bainga Nchindo a former teacher at the school.

“As the school patron, I commit myself to support the vision of Isuswa to ensure that we promote partnership and encourage stakeholder involvement. Advocate for the needs of the school and also support the learners' success and community development,” added Nchindo.
