The Zambian High Commission to Namibia has opened a book of condolences for its late former vice president, Guy Scott. 

As declared by incumbent President Hakainde Hichilema on Thursday, the Zambian flag is flying at half mast.

The environment is sombre.

Now the book of condolences has been opened for the late's associates and the like to do the needful.

Dr. Scott was Zambia's minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Livestock during late former president Fredrick Chiluba's era between 1991 and 2001.

He bounced back in 2011 as the Republican vice president until October 2014, when President Michael Sata died.

He subsequently took over the mantle as acting president until elections were held within three months.

Dr. Scott remains in the annals of history as the only white man of Scottish descent to have been a president of an independent African country.

He will be buried on Monday, the 20th of July, at Memorial Park's commercial burial site in Lusaka.

In according him a state funeral, the government has also designated the state-owned Belvedere Lodge as the official funeral venue.

On Friday, Scott's widow Sharllote, a former member of the Zambian Parliament, has also been moved from their private residence in the outskirts of Lusaka to the new venue.
