Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan has called for greater investment in African-owned infrastructure as leaders, financiers and investors gathered in Dar es Salaam on Wednesday for the Africa50 General Shareholders' Meeting and the Infra for Africa Forum.
The two-day summit has brought together African heads of state, ministers, development finance institutions, private sector leaders and investors to explore ways of mobilising private capital for transport, energy, digital and logistics projects across the continent.
African Development Bank Group President Dr Sidi Ould Tah explained.
"At the heart of this transformation is infrastructure. Our roads, ports, railways, energy systems and digital networks must drive growth, withstand future shocks and enhance Africa's competitiveness by developing bankable projects, mobilising long-term financing and attracting private investment,"
Held under the theme "A Decade of Impact: From Vision to Delivery," the forum is focusing on innovative financing models, regional connectivity and stronger public-private partnerships to help narrow Africa's infrastructure financing gap.
"Africa50 reflects Africa's determination to finance, build and own its own future. Through collaboration, strong partnerships and effective implementation, we can build a more resilient, competitive and prosperous Africa," she added.
Hassan said Tanzania offers a unique mix of tourism opportunities and investment potential, backed by a favourable business environment, making the country well placed to deepen its partnership with the Africa50 investment platform.
She stated that Tanzania's infrastructure programme is being guided by the country's Development Vision 2050, with plans to expand strategic transport, energy and digital networks to support long-term economic growth.
