IPC MP Roderick Likando questioned whether the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Land Reform had lifted the moratorium which was supported by the founding president to oppose phosphate mining in the country.
Minister Indileni Daniel stated that there is still a process underway to deal with the matter under the environmental act.
"The Environmental Management Act is very clear on the process to be followed. As a minister of environment, under which the Environmental Commission is calling, I'm not in the position to prejudge that process. There is a process to be followed, and we just have to allow the process to take its course. And then after that, the result will be pronounced. And I just want to make it clear that under no circumstances as a minister will I deprive what is rightfully for this country. But at this point in time, we will allow the process to take its course, and then you will be informed of that."
