Activists Michael Amushelelo and Shaun Gariseb have called on the City of Windhoek to carry out its mandate with transparency and accountability.

The two activists made the call during a media briefing in Windhoek.

They are demanding that the city provide residents with security of tenure, create pathways to home ownership, fix potholes, collect rubbish on time, repair sewerage infrastructure, and process business and land applications efficiently. They also want the City to provide dignified trading spaces, spend public money transparently and account for every dollar. In addition, the activists reminded the city of its responsibility to keep Windhoek clean and prioritise the servicing of land for residents.

They also called for traders and street vendors to be provided with a safe and conducive operating environment, including access to toilets and water.

To push for a response to their demands, the activists plan to hold a demonstration at the City of Windhoek’s head office on 26 September 2026.

Residents of informal settlements, pensioners, municipal workers, cleaners, business owners and others have been invited to join the demonstration.
