Namibia joined the rest of the globe to celebrate world International Education Day.

This year's celebration is held under the theme, "invest in people and prioritise education"

The day is observed to remind people of the importance of education as well as the role of education in peace and development.

On International Education day, the minister is reaching out for strong political mobilization in education and especially for everyone to reflect deeply as citizens to translate all the commitments that we make and the global initiative into deliberative efforts and action and to honor what we set out to do.

The Ministry thus calls upon stakeholders to invest not just in funding projects and programs but also provide technical expertise to ensure that every Namibian child is reached.

Steenkamp was quoted saying: "We want to lift our children out of poverty and uncertainty and fear, we must grant them an opportunity to excel in life and we must allow our children to learn and to grow, to attend school and to give the best that they can give. In order for us to do that we appreciate our development partners and the international sphere that always assists Namibia in carrying out its mandate. We wish to strengthen our partnership with the youth"
