Richard Metcalfe accuses ACC of bias and unfairness

A defence lawyer representing one of the 11 suspects in the Fishrot case accused the Anti-Corruption Commission of bias and unfairness for selectively pursuing suspects involved in the fishing corruption scandal.

Richard Metcalfe, who represents Tamson Hatuikulipi, when cross-examining investigator, Andreas Kanyangela, claimed the ACC is not targeting everyone involved, but only a few suspects.

Jobs of over 600 fishermen to be offered to other people

The jobs of more than 600 fishermen who resigned at Walvis Bay, in the Erongo Region, will be offered to other people in the fishing industry.

This is according to Richard Metcalfe, the lawyer representing the four companies that have taken legal action against the employees. 

The workers were employed by Hadago Fishing, Kuiseb Enterprises, Cavema and Vernier Investments in Walvis Bay.

Four fishing companies at Walvis Bay have taken legal action against workers, who allegedly, unlawfully left their jobs in August.

More than 600 workers, under the Namibia Fishing Industries and Fishermen Workers Union, supposedly resigned and left without giving the company the stipulated one-month notice, as per the terms of their employment agreement.

Hadago, Kuiseb Fishing Enterprises, Cavema and Camoposatu Investment are all represented by attorney Richard Metcalfe.
