Another devastating fire broke out in Tulinawa, Swakopmund's Mondesa residential area, leaving 23 residents homeless after about six dwellings burned to ashes.

The fire was caused by a gas stove explosion, and fortunately, there were no reported casualties or injuries in the incident.

The windy weather conditions caused the fires to spread rapidly, resulting in the destruction of shacks built from highly flammable materials such as wooden boxes, plastic, and hardboard.

People have been settling in the DRC informal settlement for over 20 years, with some renting backyard shacks due to the lack of proper houses. In many cases, there are more than eight shacks in a single yard.

About 65 people were affected by another fire that occurred in July.

The municipality, together with stakeholders, provided building materials to the fire victims to help them erect new structures. Additionally, they handed out food hampers, blankets, and second-hand clothes to support those who were affected.
