The extradition of a 38-year-old Namibian woman from Zambia has been postponed to Thursday.
Chante Coetzee, who allegedly fled Namibia using South African identity documents, was initially expected to be handed over to Namibian authorities on Monday.
The investigating officer, Chief Inspector Hendricks Mukubesa Mulele, confirmed the postponement to NAMPA, saying there are pending matters that require coordination between Interpol Namibia and Interpol Zambia.
According to Mulele, Coetzee allegedly hired a vehicle from Kuomboka Guesthouse and Rentals in Zambezi between 24 June and 02 July 2024 to tour Namibia. However, she reportedly crossed into Zambia without the vehicle owner’s consent using ungazetted entry points.
The vehicle owner filed a criminal complaint at Katima Mulilo, leading to Coetzee’s arrest in Zambia on 18 October 2024. A recent court ruling in Zambia approved her extradition to Namibia, where she faces charges including motor vehicle theft and violations of the Prevention of Organised Crime Act.
“We are still very busy but she faces multiple charges, including theft of a motor vehicle and contravention of the Prevention of Organised Crime in Namibia. Her extradition will further aid our own investigations,” said Mulele.
