Ndeshihafela Larandja of the Independent Patriots for Change will lead the political leadership of the City of Windhoek.

Larandja was elected today after several failed attempts by city councillors to elect its political leaders.

Larandja, who previously served as Chairperson of the City's Management Committee three years ago, will lead the council until the end of November this year.

She said that the councillors will prioritise impactful and unified political will on matters such as the provision of basic services and land and housing delivery.

Clemencia Hanases of the Popular Democratic Movement was unanimously nominated as deputy mayor.

The council also elected a new management committee through a secret vote.

Illse Keister of the Affirmative Repositioning Movement (AR) was chosen as chairperson, leading a team that includes Jurgen Hecht (IPC), Fransina Kahungu (Swapo), Joseph Uapingene (NUDO), and Bernadus Araeb (IPC).

Keister forms part of the AR's list of members who are going to parliament.
