The City of Windhoek, in partnership with Vivo Energy, held a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a sanitation hub at the Mix Settlement.
The purpose of the project is to improve sanitary conditions and provide clean water to the residents.
The sanitary hub will consist of six toilets, two urinals, and two water points.
The project, which costs about N$600,000, will be partly funded with the N$295,000 that was raised in the 2024 Vivo Energy Marathon in collaboration with the City of Windhoek.
Former Mayor of Windhoek, Queen Omagano Kamati, has also pledged N$50,000 towards the project, with the City of Windhoek covering the remaining balance.
The mayor of Windhoek, Ndeshifela Larandja, said the initiative shows what the public and private sectors can achieve when working towards the common good.
She further stated that the initiative will give adequate and equitable access to sanitation for all residents, paying special attention to the needs of women and girls in vulnerable situations.
Community member Julia Ndango expressed gratitude to the City of Windhoek and Vivo Energy on behalf of all residents.
She urged her fellow community members to take excellent care of the facilities provided to them.
