Two boys aged 13 and 16 survived a hippo attack at Kasisi village in the Kavango West Region on Monday.
Namibian Police Force (NamPol) Chief Inspector Raimbert Muronga confirmed the incident to Nampa, saying the boys were attacked while in a canoe between 16h00 and 17h00.
The 16-year-old Markus Amutenya sustained a serious leg injury while Haingura Paulus (13) escaped the incident unharmed.
Muronga said both were rescued by the police and rushed to Bunya clinic, from where Amutenya was transferred to the Rundu State Hospital.
The relevant authorities were informed of the matter.
In another incident, a 31-year-old man allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself with a rope from a tree on Sunday.
According to Muronga, the incident occurred at 06h00 at Siyandeya village in the Kapako Constituency of the Kavango West Region.
The deceased was a student at Rundu Vocational Training Centre (RVTC). The motive behind the suicide is unknown, as no suicide note was left behind.
The deceased was identified as Joseph Eliphas Angula, and his remains were transported to the Rundu State mortuary for an autopsy.
No foul play was observed, and the next of kin were informed of his death.
