The restoration of the weather forecasting system at the Walvis Bay International Airport and the Hosea Kutako International Airport is currently in progress. A NOTAM has been issued to inform aviation operators about the ongoing disruption.

Works and Transport Minister Veikko Nekundi provided the update in the National Assembly after IPC MP Nelson Kalangula raised concerns over the system, which he reported had been down since last week.

The Terminal Aerodrome Forecast system provides pilots with information on expected weather conditions at an airport. Kalangula questioned the accuracy and timely availability of the information, particularly as the rainy season approaches.

He also reported that two aircraft were diverted from Walvis Bay to Hosea Kutako International Airport over the weekend, with the diversions carrying additional costs for operators.

Kalangula wanted to know what action was being taken to restore the system and prevent further disruptions that could affect aviation safety and flight operations.

Nekundi explained that system failures can occur in aviation operations and are managed through established procedures. Should further clarification be required, the minister indicated that his ministry will issue a public statement on the disruption, restoration efforts and any additional measures being taken to ensure smooth aviation operations.
