Zambia is mourning the death of its sixth President, Edgar Lungu.
Lungu died today in Pretoria, South Africa, where he had been receiving specialized medical treatment.
The news was confirmed by Given Lubinda, Acting President of the Patriotic Front.
Family lawyer Makebi Zulu also acknowledged the loss.
Dr. Edgar Lungu served as President of Zambia from 2015 to 2021, leading the country during a pivotal period marked by significant infrastructure projects and economic challenges.
Born on November 11, 1956, Lungu rose from humble beginnings to the pinnacle of political leadership, having previously served as Minister of Justice and Minister of Defence before ascending to the presidency after the death of President Michael Sata.
The nation now enters a period of reflection and mourning for the late leader, whose contributions to Zambia's political landscape are indelible.
