Former deputy mayor of Rundu, Toini Hausiku, was buried at the Mbunza Royal Cemetery at Kapako in the Kavango West Region over the weekend. 

Hausiku, who was also the widow of liberation struggle icon Marco Hausiku, died on the 19th of July in a Windhoek hospital from cancer. 

Resilient, loving, humble and a veteran of the Namibian liberation struggle. These were just some of the many words used to describe the late Toini Hausiku. 

A number of people took to the stage to talk about how Hausiku made a difference, not only in their personal lives but also in her contribution to Namibia's freedom. 

Some said she took young freedom fighters under her wing, while others described her as a pillar of strength determined to keep families together. 

Many said her death has left a void that will be very difficult to fill. 

Those who knew her said Hausiku found joy in the smallest things; she was always ten steps ahead and had a knack for challenging blind traditions. 

Her burial at the Mbunza Royal Cemetery brought together mourners from all over. 

Hausiku was a nurse by profession, and those in the industry decided to send her off by reciting the nurse's pledge. 

Hausiku is survived by five children and 15 grandchildren.
