The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) has deployed 24 teams for the Kabbe South Constituency ahead of the by-election scheduled to take place tomorrow.
Speaking at the constituency office, which will also serve as a collation centre, the electoral officer for Zambezi, Lesley Simwanza, said that most of the teams were deployed on Sunday, with the remaining ones dispatched earlier on Monday.
Simwanza explained that about 10 teams can only access the polling stations in their areas via helicopter and boat due to floods.
"Most of the teams that went through via boat to Impalila, Namonyi, Kabuta, and Machaba already went yesterday with the boat that was provided for by the Ministry of Defence; those ones which were on the ground, like Nakabolelwa, Lusese, Izimwe Ngoma, Masikili, Nyambe village, and Limai village, already went yesterday."
Polls will open at seven o'clock in the morning and will close at nine in the evening.
Counting will commence immediately after closing, with some teams only expected to report to the collation centre on Wednesday morning.
"Once they are done with counting, unfortunately, you know, due to transport issues, the helicopter can only move in the morning from eight to four o'clock, so we will only start bringing the teams from the various points to come here; that will be from eight o'clock, but they are all going to come to the constituency office; that's where we are going to do the collation."
Kabbe South is one of five constituencies that are holding by-elections after the resignation of former councillor John Likando, who was elevated to the national assembly after last year's national election.
Two political parties are contesting for the position of councillor, with Raymond Sezuni representing the Swapo Party while Sydney Shamwazi represents the Independent Patriots for Change.
