Former Zambian President Edgar Lungu, who died on 5th June 2025, will be buried next Monday.

His burial will be preceded by several solemn activities, including a valedictory ceremony on the Supreme Court grounds in honour of his contributions to the legal fraternity.

The late Edgar Lungu served for many years as a lawyer before joining politics in 1996.

Having worked with the late President Michael Sata in the 80s, Lungu's journey spans the presidency and subsequent retirement and back into politics.

Following his death, a brawl over funeral rites ensued between the government and his family.

However, both parties announced yesterday that they will bring the body to Lusaka on Wednesday, the 18th.

On Monday, a memorial requiem mass will be held in the Lusaka showgrounds. His remains will then be interred at Embassy Park, where other deceased presidents have been buried.

Preparations for his grave are underway.

Lungu led the people of Zambia for a term starting in 2016 after winning elections.
