The Deputy Minister of Defence and Veterans Affairs, Dr. Charles Mubita, says 12,702 veterans are still awaiting the N$170,000 payout promised under the Veterans Support Programme launched in 2011.
Responding to questions from NUDO MP Vetaruhe Kandorozu, Mubita acknowledged concerns over unpaid veteran projects, citing a lack of funds.
He said that out of 33,500 registered veterans, only 13,398 have received the N$170,000 payout, amounting to over N$2 billion. The remaining 12,702 are still waiting.
“To ensure justice, a first-in, first-out system is being used, based on the year of application,” Mubita explained.
In the 2023/2024 financial year, 587 veterans were paid, while 1,798 have received payments so far in 2024/2025.
He said increasing the number of beneficiaries remains a top priority for the ministry.
Mubita also noted that registered veterans receive monthly financial support, as well as medical and funeral assistance.
On the possibility of increasing the monthly grant, Mubita said the matter is under review.
