The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) held a stakeholder engagement at Katima Mulilo to assess their readiness for the supplementary registration of voters slated for the 4th to the 19th of August 2025.

The Zambezi Region has 220 registration points that will cater for the eight constituencies with 148 registration officials recruited.

The supplementary registration of voters is intended to register first-time voters, eligible voters who have relocated to other constituencies, and those with a need to change any information on their voter cards to enable them to vote in the Regional Councils and Local Authorities elections.

The regional electoral officer for the Zambezi Region is Lesley Simwanza, who emphasised that "the successful delivery of this registration process will depend largely on our collective effort from traditional leaders and political leaders to administrators, civil servants, and community representatives. Your voices, your networks, and your leadership will be essential in ensuring that no eligible voter is left behind."

Civic and voter education officer for ECN Sammy Muhau spoke about the need for youth to vote.

"The commission has appointed six youth ambassadors in all 14 regions to strengthen voter involvement among the youth, so basically the team of the youth are the ones now to encourage the fellow youth to partake in the electoral process."

All Peoples Party representative Linus Muchila asked during the engagement about the delimitation of constituencies.

"I believe that ECN will give an update on what happened to the previous delimitation commission. We were here; I think everybody knows that the delimitation commission came here. Proposals were made for the delimitation or demarcation of constituencies, which in our case included the addition of other constituencies. I believe that ECN will give us a bit of background or feedback on that."

Simwanza responded that the ECN has not been updated about that matter. "We haven't received any updates regarding that matter yet, but once we do, we will hold another meeting to inform you about the situation. As it stands now, even ECN is unaware of what is happening."
