President Cyril Ramaphosa has decided to place the Minister of Police, Senzo Mchunu, on leave with immediate effect and appoint Professor Firoz Cachalia as the acting Minister of Police.

The South African President made this announcement while briefing the nation on security measures in the country.

President Ramaphosa also stated that the government is establishing a judicial commission of inquiry, chaired by Acting Deputy Chief Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga.

The commission will investigate allegations of infiltration of law enforcement, intelligence, and related institutions within the criminal justice system by criminal syndicates.
