The |Khomanin Traditional Authority is seeking clarity on the alleged authorisation by the Ministry of Urban and Rural Development for the subdivision of Farm Baumgartsbrunn to accommodate residential plots.
The land was sold to developer Many Hills Home Owners Association.
Baumgartsbrun is not only home to a few |Khomanin People.
It is considered ancestral land, bearing the grave sites of their forebearers.
In a letter addressed to the |Khomanin Traditional Authority, dated 25 June 2025, the Many Hills Home Owners Association states that the Ministry of Urban and Rural Development had authorised the development on 15 June 2017.
That development resulted in the subdivision of Farm Baumgartsbrunn, affecting 138 residential portions and a primary school, among others.
The alienated land of 300 hectares was donated by the Helmut Bleks Foundation to the |Khomanin people who remain resident in the area.
The traditional authority questioned the deal, as the Land Treaty Agreement between the Helmut Bleks Foundation and the |Khomanin still stands, since it was drawn up in 2009.
They, therefore, invited the Minister of Urban and Rural Development, James Sankwasa, to attend a meeting, scheduled for the 7th of next month, at Baumgartsbrunn, to address the matter with all parties involved.
Gaos Juliane Gawa-!Nas says the |Khomanin people's fight for ownership of the land continues, despite numerous setbacks, this being one.
Gawa-!Nas hopes for the intervention of President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah in their search for a lasting solution.
Questions sent to the Ministry of Urban and Rural Development regarding this matter were not answered by the time of broadcast.
