The African Monarch Lodges in Katima Mulilo have come to the rescue of a family of a blind senior citizen at Kongola by settling her loan of about N$41,000.

Makumbi Nziye is a member of the Twalitumeli Shack Dwellers Federation, but has not yet even paid the required amount of N$3,000 to commence with the construction of her house.

Nziye fled from Kongola to Zambia following attacks by the former apartheid South African regime during the years of colonisation.

She returned to Namibia six years ago; however, her Zambian national documents were destroyed in a fire.

She now lives in a makeshift structure with her daughter.

Lack of proper documentation has left Nyize in a stateless status, and therefore, she does not receive government social grants.

Her daughter, Irene Mavuna, is unemployed and can't seek employment either for fear of leaving her visually impaired mother home alone with no one to take care of her.

The family received a donation of flour, cooking oil, sugar, yeast, and some pots to enable her to start a business of selling cakes.

Rogers requested additional assistance for the family.

Mavuna appreciated the gesture from the donor, adding that the assistance will go a long way in improving the family's living condition.

When contacted for comment, Kongola Constituency Councillor Bennetty Busihu expressed appreciation for the donation made for the senior citizen and stated that he will visit the family.
