The Mayor of Omaruru, Vincent Kahwa, has reaffirmed the town's commitment to developing the OlympAfrica Sports Centre into a regional hub for sport.

Speaking at the 2025 OlympAfrica !O Yes Tournament finals, he announced that the municipality is ready for the second phase of the project.

In his remarks, Mayor Kahwa highlighted the town's strategic role in donating the land for the centre to the Namibia National Olympic Committee, in partnership with the national government.

He emphasized that the Omaruru Town Council remains fully committed to the agreement to turn the facility into one of Namibia's premier sports hub - particularly for the Erongo Region.

In an exclusive interview with NBC Sport News, Jo-Ann Manuel, the National Director of Sports Development in the Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sport, Arts and Culture, confirmed that while the centre is owned by the Olympic Committee, the ministry stands ready to support its development once a formal request is received.

She further stated that plans are already in motion to help upgrade the facility.

The 2025 OlympAfrica !O Yes Tournament finals was a significant milestone for the facility, attracting national and local stakeholders.

The event underscored a growing commitment to youth sport and infrastructure development in Namibia.

With continued support from government and local authorities, the OlympAfrica Sports Centre in Omaruru is poised to become a beacon of sporting excellence in the region.
