The National Road Safety Council (NRSC) is reviewing its outdated road safety strategy to suit the current environment.

The review is taking place at Swakopmund.

The review is being attended by stakeholders from the Health Ministry, the MVA Fund and municipalities.

NRSC Chairperson Eliphas !Owos-Oab said Namibia must move beyond treating today's challenges with outdated solutions.

"The world is changing rapidly, and so too must our thinking, our methods, and our resolve. Let us embrace innovation, let us question old assumptions, and be bold enough to pioneer new approaches that are fit for the realities of our time. Let us inspire our teams and institutions to become centres of excellence, where creativity, evidence, and collaboration drive every action."

He said road safety is not just a national imperative but a continental and global responsibility.

"Namibia, like many nations, faces formidable challenges. Rapid urbanisation and increased vehicle ownership, inadequate road infrastructure in certain regions, limited resources for enforcement and education, and persistent risky behaviours among road users. Fragmented, uncoordinated interventions pose a persistent threat, yet these challenges are not insurmountable. To overcome them, we must be bold in our mid-term review of the Decade of Action 2025-2030."

The outcome of the meeting will be the foundation for the upcoming National Safety Conference, to be held in September.
