The arson case against Uis activist Jimmy ||Areseb has been postponed to 6 October for the accused to acquire a legal aid lawyer.
||Areseb is charged with contravening the Explosives Act, possession and supply of explosives, arson, and violating his bail conditions.
The activist is accused of throwing bottles filled with petrol and cloth at the house of Zacharias Seibeb, the former leader of the Dâure Daman Traditional Authority, three months ago while on bail.
It is alleged that the attack was prompted by a violent clash between police and community members.
||Areseb's court appearance at Uis was concurrent with the case of seven people, including pensioners, arrested for obstructing police officers who were removing them from the traditional authority offices as per a court order in January.
The residents, including ||Areseb, occupied the office demanding Seibeb's removal due to alleged irregularities.
The group will make another court appearance on 11 November for plea and trial.
The suspects' charges include obstructing police officers, obstructing the administration of justice under the Riotous Assemblies Act, and contravening a court order.
