The Director of the Autism Association of Namibia and President of World Autism Organization, Petra Dillmann wants to see stronger policies and collaboration to support people with autism.

Dillmann dismissed myths about autistic children that they are less intelligent.

“People think a child is a witch. People think the child is only naughty. People think that the child only has splinter skills. They are very good with counting or they are good with the piano. It does not mean that they are stupid. It does not mean that they cannot learn.”

She raised concerns about children being left out of school, cultural misunderstandings, and poor coordination between government ministries, offices and agencies.

The workshop included real-life stories and practical strategies for parents and teachers, aiming to improve communication, inclusion, and support for families living with autism.
