A group of passengers who took a Silas Ndapuka Transport bus from Rundu on Wednesday night are stranded in Grootfontein after the bus broke down.
As the bus approached the Mururani Veterinary checkpoint last night, passengers overheard the driver telling police he could not switch off the bus because it might not restart.
When the bus arrived at a service station in Grootfontein around midnight, the driver informed passengers of the breakdown.
Shortly after, some passengers left the Silas Ndapuka Transport bus to secure seats with Intercape, while others decided to stay.
It has now been seven hours since the breakdown, with no assistance.
Since the incident, the driver has told passengers another bus is coming from either Windhoek or Oshakati but cannot say how far away it is.
Passengers are frustrated and calling on Silas Ndapuka Transport to treat clients better. They are also demanding refunds.
The bus usually leaves Rundu between 21:00 and 22:00 and arrives in Windhoek between 06:00 and 07:00.
By 07:00 this morning, no relief bus had arrived.
The driver told NBC News that the bus was having mechanical problems, which is why he stopped in Grootfontein.
Aron Mundanya from Divundu and Messag Muremi from Rundu expressed dissatisfaction with the poor service from Silas Ndapuka Transport.
