The Swapo Party has confirmed the nomination of businessman Kobus van Schalkwyk at Walvis Bay on the local authority list for the upcoming elections.
Van Schalkwyk made headlines in August 2025 when he invited Swapo Party Secretary General Sophia Shaningwa to a meeting to find solutions to the deteriorating state of affairs at the harbour town.
The district coordinator, Patrick Bathromeus, said the Swapo Party intends to represent all residents at Walvis Bay through the list in the upcoming election.
Bathromeus explained that van Schalkwyk made the list not for political gain but because he has the town at heart.
According to the co-ordinator, the Swapo Party needs a team that can run the municipality like a business and further fix it.
Van Schalkwyk has been a Swapo Party member for the past five years and is number eight on the party's candidate list for Walvis Bay Local Authority.
