Information and Communication Technology Minister Emma Theofelus has called on Outjo residents to take advantage of the tourism activities in the town, including setting up virtual tours. Theofelus was speaking at the opening of the Outjo Tourism and Trade Expo.
Theofelus said that in this digital age, technology presents opportunities for Outjo youth to harness tools to carve their own space in the tourism sector.
"Imagine developing virtual tours of our country and selling them to international markets. You don't need a tourist to come all the way to Outjo. You can document what your town can offer to try to attract tourists. Imagine positioning yourself as a trusted local reviewer on global travel platforms. Go to the local lodges and guesthouses and the local shops, whether they are craft shops, bakeries, or service stations. Go and review their services to encourage tourists to stop by and actually spend money in the town of Outjo."
Theofelus also encouraged Outjo Municipality to be innovative and creative in development to attract investors and young professionals.
"I want to offer a challenge, move beyond land sales as a source of income. Design attractive investment packages. Create incentives that encourage young professionals and entrepreneurs to return. Work hand in hand with local business owners to unlock creativity and energy. Around the world, we have seen small towns that once struggled with slow growth transform themselves through innovation, careful planning, and partnerships."
The minister further urged the Kunene leadership to seize the opportunity to merge tourism through agritourism, where visitors can experience local agricultural products alongside the wildlife and landscapes.
Outjo Mayor Sigliende ||Amamus said the expo, which has been revived after a ten-year hiatus, will now feature on the annual council calendar.
"This expo is a proud showcase of the local enterprises, cultures, and opportunities, bringing together tourism, small business operators, investors, and innovation under one roof. It's a reflection of our town's resilience, ambition and the unity of purpose shared for the growth."
||Amamus stressed that Outjo is a destination of choice due to its strategic location leading to Etosha National Park.
The expo runs until Saturday.
