Sebastien Lecornu has been reappointed as the Prime Minister of France.

French President Emmanuel Macron reappointed Lecornu on Friday evening, just four days after he resigned as PM.

According to a statement issued by the Élysée Palace, President Macron, who previously accepted the resignation, tasked PM Lecornu with forming a government. No further details were shared.

Lecornu had resigned as PM on Monday, hours after unveiling his cabinet. Among the reasons he listed was the unwillingness of political parties in Parliament to compromise over ministerial appointments.

“I was ready to compromise, but each political party wanted the other party to adopt the entire programme,” Lecornu said upon resignation.

Currently, no party enjoys a parliamentary majority, with the 2024 snap elections further entrenching divisions.

Lecornu is the fourth Prime Minister to be appointed by Macron since his re-election as France’s President in 2022.
