A suspected crocodile attack has claimed the life of a woman at Thibanana Village in Mukwe, Kavango East Region.
The incident reportedly occurred on Tuesday afternoon when 47-year-old Othilia Mandera went to fetch water from the Kavango River, just a few metres from her home.
One of Mandera’s daughters became concerned after she did not return and went to search for her mother around the village. She found only a water container and blood near their usual water-fetching spot. The family has been informed.
Mukwe Constituency Councillor Damian Maghambayi, who visited the family on Wednesday morning, expressed sorrow over the recurring crocodile attacks in the area.
He revealed that four crocodile attacks have been recorded in the region this year alone and emphasised the urgent need for boreholes. Although a borehole was recently drilled in Thibanana Village by the government, it's not yet installed due to insufficient of funds.
Maghambayi called on good Samaritans to assist the family.
