Many residents in Aranos hope that the new political leadership will help address some of the challenges they continue to face, particularly access to land, proper housing, and reliable food support.

While the challenges vary, many are optimistic about improved living conditions.

One such resident, a mother of six, was recently affected by heavy rains that damaged her house.

The Aranos Constituency Office disappointed Riana Karises by declining her request for food assistance, which, she said, is available to victims of natural disasters.

Nevertheless, she remains confident that her vote will help improve her situation.

"I registered with this woman on the same day, and she received her food, but my name is not on the list of beneficiaries. That's why I went to ask her if she had received her food, and she confirmed, wondering why my name is not on the beneficiaries list, whilst we registered on the same day."

Despite her disappointment, she is adamant about making her voice count, holding her voting card in her hand.

Frikkie Tities, a young resident of the town, says the prospects of voting are in balance due to damaged voter cards, claiming that a political party agent took photos of his broken card and promised to return.

The issuance of duplicate voters' cards got off to a slow start in Aranos Constituency, with only 11 cards issued since Monday; however, the ECN team leader for Aranos Constituency, Nicolene Ludeke, believes that the slow rate of collecting duplicate cards could be a sign that most voters have their original cards intact.

The Aranos Town Council has seven seats, while the Gochas Village Council has five.
