In Zambia, 564 people have been discharged from the hospital after recovering from cholera.

Of the initial 577 cumulative cases since the disease broke out in August, only four have remained hospitalised. Nine people have so far died from cholera.

The country has vaccinated 225,858 people against cholera in high-risk areas.

The harbour town of Mpulungu, situated on the southern tip of Lake Tanganyika and bordering Zambia, Burundi, Tanzania, and partially Congo, is considered the epicentre of the disease, having recorded a total of 316 cases.

The capital, Lusaka, remains among the least affected, along with Kaputa, Kitwe, and Chongwe towns, each reporting only a single case.

However, hope lies in the vaccine, especially as Zambia is expected to receive above-normal rainfall this season.
