President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has appointed Modestus Amutse as the new Minister of Industries, Mines and Energy, effective 2 December 2025.

Amutse took over from Frans Kapofi, who had been acting in the position since the dismissal of Natangue Ithete in October.

In a statement, the Presidency said Amutse brings extensive experience in public service, having previously served as Deputy Minister of Information and Communication Technology and as Chairperson of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on ICT.

It added that Amutse's earlier leadership roles at the regional level further strengthen the depth of experience he brings to this important portfolio.

President Nandi-Ndaitwah said the appointment comes at a critical moment where the Eighth Administration is firmly focused on quality service delivery, accountability and effective implementation, following the recent Regional Councils and Local Authorities elections.
