The Electoral Commission of Namibia has asked the Electoral Court to overturn a decision that led to the wrong allocation of a council seat in the Rundu Local Authority elections.
The ECN said a returning officer made an error when announcing the final allocation of seats.
The mistake affected one of the seven seats on the Rundu Town Council.
The Swapo Party received 7,148 votes and was allocated four seats, with the Rundu Concerned Citizens' Association receiving 1,337 votes and being allocated one seat.
The Affirmative Repositioning Movement received 799 votes and was allocated one seat.
The final seat should have been allocated to the Rundu Urban Community Association, which received 674 votes.
Instead, the seat was awarded to the Independent Patriots for Change, which received 642 votes.
The ECN met with all affected parties and local associations to explain the error and outline the steps taken to address it.
The Commission has lodged an urgent application and is now seeking an order to set aside the declaration.
The ECN said the application is required because the declaration was made by its appointed official and can only be corrected by a court.
