The days of Rundu being shrouded in darkness after sunset could soon be over, as plans are underway to install streetlights throughout the town.

Minister of Industries, Mines and Energy, Modestus Amutse, is in Rundu, with one of the key activities on his programme being the assessment of electricity access and ongoing energy projects in the region. This visit highlights the government’s commitment to improving infrastructure and ensuring reliable energy for local communities.

Amutse said people should be able to move safely, adding that the procurement of street lights should be done as soon as possible.

The minister also advised against planning townships or extensions without streetlights, saying that safety should always come first.
