The President of the Former Refugees Repatriation Association of Namibia has tendered an apology to the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) and the Editors' Forum of Namibia (EFN) following harassment of a news crew by some members of the association.
Matheus Nangolo noted that the group's actions do not reflect the views, values or principles of the Association, saying the responsible individuals acted in their personal capacities.
The association he says, has always maintained a respectful and constructive working relationship with journalists and media houses across the country, and remains committed to upholding freedom of the media and mutual respect.
It regrets the incident, he says, and trusts their apology will contribute to healing, understanding and continued co-operation.
"Anger can sometimes be uncontrolable, therefore we really want to appologise to all news outlets in Namibia, let us continue to work together like we use to before. Without newsmakers information will not reach anywhere. So NBC and all media houses we really apologise on behalf of all fredom fighters," pleaded Nangolo.
Nangolo says the association is currently lobbying for funds, as it means to take the matter to the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Geneva, Switzerland.
To date, the group remains camped at the Swapo Party headquarters, demanding a letter from the United Nations detailing issues of repatriation, rehabilitation and resettlement.
They maintain that they never received rehabilitation and resettlement support, despite the UN's position that these processes were completed in 1989.
