The colleagues of the late Ondangwa Court control prosecutor Justine Shiweda say picking up the pieces following her demise remains an uphill battle.

Shiweda died on Saturday after she was shot five times and tossed with acid on her legs, allegedly by a criminal syndicate which has so far seen 6 suspects behind bars.

Late Shiweda's colleagues spoke in unison, stating that she was a well-acquainted legal practitioner and that her death has shed light on the need for protection for legal minds that are at the forefront of justice.

"When you have to think about the impact and the risk that follows, when you try to think about your kids and your way of moving around, it gives you fear to a point that you try to reconsider prosecuting. Just the fact that you are in limbo. Point number one: God's grace is the only thing that can save prosecutors from God's grace. I don't know if the ministry or government can assist with the prosecutor's safety; I don't know how they will go about it, but it should be contended as a priority."

Wisdom Ndakondja shared an office with Shiweda and describes her as a happy person who maintained her smile throughout the time she was in hospital.

"Usually during our communication she will always say she is okay. She would never say she is not doing good or something like that. I am saying this incident is a very disturbing incident in the country, the first of its kind where a judicial officer, a prosecutor, is attacked in her line of duty for standing for the truth and doing what she believes in."

Despite the circumstances which led to Shiweda's demise, they say they will carry the torch forward without fear or favour and will uphold justice at all costs.
Shiweda's memorial and burial service will be held on Friday and Saturday at Onambango village in the Oshana region.
