President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has congratulated Esi Malaika Schimming-Chase on becoming Namibia's first female judge of the Supreme Court.

In a statement, the President highlighted Namibia's progress in women's emancipation, noting the presence of women in top leadership roles.

"Namibia is one of those countries that have made strides in the area of women's emancipation," she said. "Today we do not only have a woman President, Vice President, Speaker of the National Assembly, Secretary General of the ruling party, and Deputy Chair of the National Council; we have women leaders in business, medical professionals, engineers, and pilots, just to mention a few."

Lady Justice Schimming-Chase was sworn in on Monday, 2 March.

"On behalf of the Namibian people, I congratulate her," President Nandi-Ndaitwah added.
